GRAVE MISTAKE RECORDS AND MAILORDER
Webstore Update - October 3, 2018
Hello friends! Two months have passed since the last email update, so needless to say - this month's webstore email is jam packed with a ton of killer punk/hc/etc releases that have popped up over the past couple of months!!!
All is still quiet on the GM release / label front, but who knows ... that all might change sooner than you think! Meanwhile, be sure to check out Night Birds latest LP, Roll Credits, which was released a few weeks ago on Fat Wreck Chords. We will hopefully have copies in the webstore soon, and Night Birds have a ton of shows coming up around the country through the rest of the year, so be sure to check them out if they hit your area!
Big Eyes are currently wrapping up their next LP, which will be due out next year (label and details TBA), and in the meantime are set to embark on a several week tour this month with Joyce Manor - you can check out the dates here.
That's all the news we have at the moment, so let's get to the distro update!
WEBSTORE UPDATE for 10/3/18: New Releases from WASTE MANAGEMENT, PUBLIC ACID, TERRORST, BB AND THE BLIPS, plus REISSUES from POISON IDEA, BIKINI KILL, CRUCIFIX, STIMULATORS, and MORE!
For quick browsing of recent additions to the store, you can check out all of these titles mentioned below in the New Arrivals and Recent Restocks sections!
As mentioned already, yet another HUGE distro update - due not only to my inability to get these emails out more frequently, but more importantly the sheer volume of killer releases and reissues that have come out over the past few months! Plus, we've been restocking the hell out of classic punk titles and reissues, as well as current releases that tend to move quickly - you can check out that full list at the bottom of this email. And if you haven't noticed yet, most of the product descriptions in the webstore contain some sort of music stream (Bandcamp, Soundcloud, Youtube, etc), so you can give these bands and releases a quick listen if you have yet to do so!
Let's get to it! Lots of new hardcore punk EPs and LPs worth your hard earned $$$, like the long awaited new LPs from Boston's one and only Waste Management, NC's Public Acid, Berlin's Idiota Civilizzato; and a ton of rad EPs from Terrorist, Cement Shoes, Hologram, Iron Cages, Pure Pressure, Electric Chair, Suck Lords, Mil-Spec, Khiis, Petitie, and more! Not to mention the latest haul of new La Vida Es Un Mus releases from Permission, Chain Cult, and Nueva Fuerza (along with a ton of LVEUM restocks).
For those of you with a bit more eclectic, less abrasive tastes (while still unquestionably remaning in the all encompassing genre of "punk"), be sure to check out the new LPs from BB and the Blips, Beta Boys, Pious Faults, Donkey Bugs, L.O.T.I.O.N., Lithics, Nasho, Table Sugar (to name a few), or EPs from Stiff Love, Pineapple RnR, and Trauma Harness! Labels like Lumpy Records, Feel It Records, and Thrilling Living consitently release awesome stuff, and we love having it in the distro!
Lots of essential reissues in this update as well - like the phenomenal brand new official 2xLP reissue of Poison Idea's classic Feel the Darkness, Bikini Kill The Singles LP collection, Stimulators Loud Fast Rules 7" reissue, Germs Lexicon Devil 7" reissue, The Dogs KBD classic Slash Your Face 7", Crucifix Nineteen Eighty-Four 7" official reissue (along with a not-so-official LP collection of early/comp tracks), Omega Tribe No Love Lost LP reissue, plus some rad Belgian punk reissues from X-Pulsion and Sic!
And not to mention, a handful of sick and downright ripping demo tapes from Ammo, Bootlicker, Starvation, Glue Traps, Dominant Force, Scarecrow, and More!
Restocks of note include a ton of classics from Dischord Records (Teen Idles, Youth Brigade, Void, Minor Threat, Scream, Gray Matter, and much more), Zero Boys, Touch and Go Records (The Fix, Negative Approach, Meatmen), No Trend, Havoc Records reissues (Varukers, Discharge, Mob 47, Kaaos), Neu!, Frontier Records (Rikk Agnew, Adolescents, Weirdos, Christian Death, Circle Jerks, and more), Neanderthal, Beer City Records reissues (MDC, DRI, Clitboys, etc), and current hits from the likes of Impalers, Hank Wood and the Hammerheads, Krimewatch, Blazing Eye, Inmates (both their newest EP and first EP reissue), Limp Wrist, Tony Molina, and much much more!!!
Tons of stuff not mentioned, check the full list with descriptions below - thanks for reading!!!

New Titles in the Webstore for 10/3/18:
WASTE MANAGEMENT "Tried and True" LP (Painkiller Records)
11 years after their classic debut, WASTE MANAGEMENT return with their first ever full-length offering. An expanded version of their original vision, still indebted to nothing more or less than classic hardcore. 11 blasts of power “the old way”.
PUBLIC ACID "Easy Weapons" LP (Self Released)
Debut 12” from this North Carolina band, combining blistering 80s hardcore with the chaotic sounds of wild Japanese punk and a tinge of primitive black metal. While Easy Weapons is Public Acid’s debut release, the lineup’s core has been together for well over 5 years, with several releases under the name Holder’s Scar (including one titled Public Acid) ... The beautiful, hand-screened jackets (designed and printed by Thomas Sara) make this feel like a cult Japanese hardcore record from the 80s, which perfectly matches the music’s vibe. Far more than just a standout record from a strong local scene, Easy Weapons matches the power of recent releases by top-shelf hardcore bands like Impalers, Glue, and Concealed Blade, so if you follow those bands you should snatch this up before its 300-copy self-released pressing disappears. - sorrystaterecords.com
BB AND THE BLIPS "Shame Job" LP (Thrilling Living Records)
BB AND THE BLIPS formed in 2017 in Sydney on the land of the Gadigal-Wangal people of the Eora Nation. Their debut LP Shame Job is a whipsmart retort to the insidious and complacent “she’ll be right” mentality fomented in the so-called Lucky Country. A ten song investigation into the uses and abuses of shame in various contexts, from nations and prisons to family and sex, these perfectly punk packages burst forth from the meeting point of first wave Sydney bands like TACTICS or THOUGHT CRIMINALS and the caustic anarcho genius of early CRASS. Featuring members of GOOD THROB, SEMI and HOUSEWIVES, this record is out in time to support the BLIPS on their upcoming North American tour. Accompanied by a two-color Risograph printed lyric booklet and limited to 600 copies on black vinyl.
TERRORIST "American Today" 7" (Toxic State Records)
Debut Terrorist EP. The state dreams its enemy into being conjures him out of rubble. American today, gone tomorrow.
L.O.T.I.O.N. / SCUMPUTER "Campaign for Digital Destruction" LP (540 Records)
540 Records is proud to present a split offering and a rallying cry from L.O.T.I.O.N. and Scumputer called Campaign for Digital Destruction. The pair offer eleven abominations, calling upon distorted and manipulated samples, synths, drum machines and a perversion of traditional instrumentation to create a dystopian vision of a society in collapse. The cover art alone, a collaboration between Death Traitors and Gabba of Chaos UK, is a perfect distillation of the band’s overall approach: a peak behind the curtain at a cold and unforgiving future. NYC’s L.O.T.I.O.N. could only exist in the now– the digital age ruled by a bloated capitalist tyrant consumed by a move toward totalitarianism. L.O.T.I.O.N. is hardcore in the digital age– bursting with nihilism, a sneering hatred for injustice and icy disdain for humanity at large in an era where an email or text is a sufficient substitute for a personal conversation. Citing the work of Scumputer as a key influence, more conventional ideas from Killing Joke, Pailhead, DAF, Skinny Puppy and Throbbing Gristle appear and vanish through the duration of Campaign. Yet L.O.T.I.O.N. is an entity onto itself– calculating, remorseless and seething with malcontent. The material on the split represents the final recordings with Emil Bognar-Nasdor, mastermind behind Dawn of Humans and former percussionist for Hank Wood & the Hammerheads. SCUMPUTER is the nom de guerre of Gabba from the legendary Chaos UK, who abandons much of the approach employed by that band while retaining the fury, cynicism and revolutionary ideas. Recorded by Rob Smith in Bristol and Kyoto between 2014 and 2016, Scumputer ropes in appearances from Japanese hardcore legends like Jun Kato of Warhead and Mune from Clown as Gabba explores the far reaches of punk, hip hop, experimental, edm, industrial and all grey areas therein. The result is an eclectic yet totally cohesive trip through pop culture, media saturation, politics and more through the eyes of a skeptical, educated renegade.
ELECTRIC CHAIR "Public Apology" 7" (Stucco Label)
As rents raise and space diminishes in every major- and minor- city across the country one wonders what there is to do next? Even here in O-Town the looming threat of unwanted and perpetual development casts its shadows on an indifferent and drunk populace. However, it would rest one's mind to know that even as we continue to delve deeper and further into the hellscape that the Pacific Northwest is becoming there are things that remain the same. In the self-mythologizing Capitol City there still is and still will continue to be Hardcore. Electric Chair capitalize and perfect on their years spent wasted in Hardcore Hell to produce for us this EP, Public Apology. There is no fixed-point on this trajectory that encompasses, among a litany of useless comparisons, anything from cascade luminaries SOLGER to a bass-player who is obviously obsessed with MELLAKKA. A kind of Pure Hardcore Music (PHM) if there ever was one. Songs about Prisons and Ropes. "You guys look like late-era GANG GREEN but sound like "Preschool"-era GANG GREEN"
SUCK LORDS "New Lords Music" 7" (Stucco Label)
Portland’s Suck Lords graciously and salaciously bring us five tracks in about as many minutes of USHC-inspired-USHC by veterans of USHC. In the city of No-Sales-Tax the daily minutia of constant-development and self-automated Kombucha stores is enough to make one say “fuck it” and just play ripping fast hardcore all-day, all-night, all-their-life. Sometimes groove, sometimes wall-of-noise, there isn’t really much to say about SUCK LORDS aside from that they are a very good Hardcore band. Like an Americanized PROTES BENGT or a less Canadian NEOS. “Wahhhhh”
IDIOTA CIVILIZZATO "S/T" LP (Static Shock Records)
Recorded in a single marathon post gig all-night session, the debut LP from Berlin's IDIOTA CIVILIZZATO builds upon their ripping 7" from last year. Obviously indebted to the wild sounds of the likes of Wretched, Impact and Blue Vomit but put together with its own distinctive grasping energy, a manic pile-on of cascading riffs, rifling drums, weird melodic trills needling through, barely held together, bursting with uncomfortable spite. Eleven frenetic punk tunes that writhe with mad-eyed fury, twisting livewire hardcore that sears into you, sneering on and roaring forward, fucked off, packed with bounce and sting. (Joe Briggs)
POISON IDEA "Feel the Darkness" 2xLP (TKO Records)
POISON IDEA's 1990 masterpiece is back!! This double-LP set is the first authorized reissue of "Feel The Darkness" in 15 years!!. Remastered from the original 24-track analog reels by Joel Grind (Toxic Holocaust)! Includes the original 13-song LP, plus a bonus LP of singles, b-sides, outtakes and remixes that together comprise the entire FTD recording sessions!! First Pressing on Color Vinyl!!! Housed in a deluxe tip-on gatefold jacket with foil-stamped printing, and printed inner sleeves!!!
STIMULATORS "LOUD Fast Rules!" 7" (Frontier Records)
THE STIMULATORS, whose original line-up featured two women (Denise Mercedes, Anne Gustavsson), a gay man (Patrick Mack), and a child (12-year-old Harley Flanagan), began to attract a cult following with young NYC music fans (including BIG TAKEOVER’s Jack Rabid) that were drawn to the band’s punk sound, especially since the original CBGB bands had distanced themselves from punk. In 1980 THE STIMULATORS recorded the LOUD Fast Rules! 45. The phrase “loud, fast, rules!” came from bassist Nick Marden (who like Flanagan, had been around rock music from his early childhood.) Marden wrote the LFR on the back of his motorcycle jacket and Denise used it as a song title. Frontier Records continues with its legendary original punk 45s reissues with this crucial 45-- while combing through the band’s archives, a never before released track – You Will Never Break My Heart—was discovered on a test pressing. We are proud to offer you the original single plus this track, a fold-up punk rock picture sleeve and colored vinyl at a great price. You’re welcome!
CRUCIFIX "Nineten Eighty Four" 7" (Kustomized Records)
Originally released in 1982 on the band’s own Freak records, this classic single was a massive musical leap for Crucifix, providing a link between the initial self titled 12-inch EP and the Dehumanization LP, an undeniable classic of Reagan-era hardcore political punk. Nineteen Eighty-Four is a lo-fi, live-in-studio 2 track recording capturing the band at full intensity, an onslaught of volume and distortion. This recording marked the band’s move into the area of political engagement through message, graphics, and a DIY ethos. In the spirit of the original Freak release, this reissue includes a remake of the patch that was silkscreened by the band for the first pressing in 1982.
BIKINI KILL "The Singles" LP (Bikini Kill Records)
Bikini Kill's The Singles was initially released in 1998 as a CD only compilation of all of Bikini Kill’s 7”s. It includes the band's collaboration with Joan Jett on the New Radio (1993) single as well as the long out of print Anti Pleasure Dissertation (1995) and I Like Fucking (1995) singles. This is the first time the collection has been presed on vinyl. The LP has been cut at 45rpm for enhanced sound quality.
PURE PRESSURE "Relampago de Furia" 7" (Painkiller Records)
Debut 8-track EP from Toronto hardcores PURE PRESSURE. Members of VIOLENT FUTURE, S.H.I.T., SIYAHKAL, PROTRUDERS playing raging hardcore pulling from pre-Roadrunner era NYHC favorites (because they just made it better then). Thrashing speedcore and screaming vocals ala No Thanks crash into Victim in Pain style breakdowns with plenty of other noticeable reference points (SOIA 7”/Life’s Blood/Side By Side). Lyrics that address the nightmares of today because the 80’s are dead.
IRON CAGES "Indulgance" 7" (Society Bleeds Records)
Iron Cages “Indulgence” EP is the latest from this DC hardcore punk quartet. After a string of tapes, this is their first vinyl release and their best to date. Featuring members of Firewalker, CDR and a number of broken up DC bands, they rip through 5 songs on "Indulgence." Pummeling drums drive this record from the start, while the riffs are straight forward hardcore punk with enough flourishes to keep things interesting. Oh, and the vocals are scorching too. They are most comfortable playing as fast as possible, but slow things down into mosh inducing crawls. You are just as likely to catch them covering the Ramones as Government Issue. This is a split release with Hog Wild Records.
HOLOGRAM "Build Yourself Up So Many Times Only To Be Brought Down Again And Again" 7" (Hysteria Records)
From the brazen debris of Washington DC’s Closet Christ comes Hologram darting at you with their debut EP of disarray that will leave you in a state of confusion. Questioning if what you had heard was reality. From mid tempo to bull paced charged in your face, this will leave you topsy turvy. If forced to compared it to reality, sloppy yet tight Italian hardcore created by an absolute maniac who lacks the ability to process pitch. - DJ Kombat. Build Yourself up so Many Times Only to be Brought Down Again and Again was recoded by Emil Bognar Nasdor and comes in a pocket sleeve and insert designed by the band’s frontman and songwriter
MIL-SPEC "Changes" 7" (Lockin' Out Records)
Mil-Spec paints in broad but precise strokes. On “Changes,” their Lockin' Out debut, expressionistic effusion merges with a pointillist's eye for detail as five anxiety-wracked Canadians labor to torment posterity with a many-hued picture of the world as it might have been. When it's time to look back at 2018, who else but dreamers will believe?
NUEVA FUERZA "Hitos Y Derrotas" LP (La Vida Es Un Mus)
NUEVA FUERZA return with 7 tracks of uber-distorted Hardcore on a 12” format. Taking cues from both Italian Hardcore and Midwest off-kilter punk but keeping the rage, anguish and intensity that has become synonymous with Barcelona over the last decade. Hitos y Derrotas sees the band delivering longer songs than on their debut with a more structured sound and new found intensity. Drenched in reverb and very bass dominated, the songs take unexpected turns and reach dirge-like moments at several times, taking you on a wild ride where youthful force-brute meets crashing idealism. Think of DESTINO FINAL meets NO TREND with a hint of NERORGASMO and you may get close to NUEVA FUERZA.
PERMISSION "Drawing Breath Through a Hole in the Ground" LP (La Vida Es Un Mus Discos)
Permission storm onward with new themes of helplessness and disorientation. Ever present in their approach, aesthetic, and musical execution, the whirlwind eight songs dash on top of pogo inducing acceleration, the brief sluggishness of open strings and blister producing snare thuds. A few uncharacteristic moments produce a fine payoff knowing Permission are capable of exactly what we imagined them to be. Fantastic off kilter hardcore punk and absolutely not to be missed live. Drawing Breath Through a Hole in the Ground comes housed in a sleeve designed by guitarist Ralph Simmonds following the path laid on their previous 12” left and comes with a 11x11 lyric insert and A2 poster designed by drummer Lloyd Clipston.
CHAIN CULT "Isolated" 7" (La Vida Es Un Mus)
Chain Cult from Athens, Greece return with a new two track 7" after releasing their much loved demo on vinyl just a few months ago. On Isolated, Chain Cult have upped the intensity and dark atmospherics. The sound is bigger, focused and anthemic. The guitar work is haunting and flanged and the rhythm section locked in, keeping the energy high. It sits somewhere between Vex's Sanctuary 12", a more uptempo Killing Joke and Warsaw while remaining a band of their time. Isolated comes housed in a pocket sleeve designed by the bands signature designer A.D. Visions which also created the lyric insert.
PETITE "PETITE II" 7" (Distort Reality Records)
4 tracks of extremely catchy melodic UK82 inspired punk!
KHIIS "Saboor" 7" (Distort Reality Records)
3 tracks of dark and aggressive hardcore sung in Farsi. From Oakland.
BURDEN "S/T" 7" (NxA Records)
Debut 7” by Boston/Cape Cod's BURDEN, featuring four tracks that mix classic Oi! sounds with the power of late 80’s NYHC. Initially started as a one-man project, this is the first recording featuring the full lineup comprised of members of Waste Management, Revilers and MFP. Limited to 500 copies on black vinyl.
BODY PRESSURE "U.S. Decay" LP (Last Hour Records)
Debut LP from Austin's BODY PRESSURE. "Body Pressure hails from Austin, Texas and plays an angry, ugly and driving brand of hardcore punk that sucks you right in. This material is coated with layers of grit within sharp guitar chords, stomping drums, dirty bass tones and snarling female vocals." - Cut & Paste
RUBBLE "S/T" LP (Distort Reality Records)
Portland's own Rubble are back with 10 tracks of catchy & driving anarcho peace punk delivered with Urgency!
STIFF LOVE "Attitudes" 7" (Feel It Records)
Hot on the heels of their debut "Trouble" 7" EP, Stiff Love are back with a smashing new single! These two tracks capture the Olympia-based group at their best yet - a fast-and-loose unit equipped with the kind of chops and confidence that simply cannot be faked or replicated. Stiff Love are the real deal; unrefined and unsophisticated; a near-perfect sonic amalgam of rock'n'roll, garage, and punk. There's a classic & undeniable 60's flavored, four-piece group dynamic at play; with Claudia and Elysa laying down the pounding rhythm section that allows Dahlia and Xtine's trebly, twin-guitar charge to propel each track along. The perfectly desperate vocals and wailing guitar leads command the high end of the mix, sealing the deal on this highly memorable and downright catchy pairing of tracks. Recorded straight to tape with Captain Tripps and packaged in a textured stipple stock glue pocket sleeve with lyric insert and digital download.
CEMENT SHOES "A Peace Product of the USA" 7" (Feel It Records)
Get in on the crumbling ground floor with the debut 7" single from Richmond's own Cement Shoes. Following a promising 2017 demo on the Loki Label, heralded as a "meat and potatoes and LSD" hardcore punk production, the Shoes turn in two fresh cuts on this 45. Furiously scratching away at the ever-underwhelming state of contemporary hardcore punk, the principle songwriters of Brown Sugar, Fried Egg, and Haircut intervene to bring us a robust and epic pairing of tracks. Consider it a simultaneous toast to the sense of humor and originality of first wave hardcore/punk and a roast of the ever fashionable and generic trappings of the aughts. Each copy comes packaged in a unique, hand-painted glue pocket sleeve with lyric insert and digital download.
BETA BOYS "Late Nite Acts" LP (Feel It Records)
Following a string of 7"s for Total Punk, Digital Regress, Neck Chop, and Lumpy - the once Kansas City, now Olympia-based Beta Boys return with their finest work to date; the aptly-titled Late Nite Acts LP. A strikingly focused and sonically refined tour de force, these ten new tracks pair the band's Midwestern hardcore roots with a darker, midtempo burn. A pure punk sound if there ever was; precisely capturing the boredom, depression, and ever-present sense of hopelessness spread across modern America. Beta Boys have truly upped the ante on this full length; an album absolutely brimming with stellar production, first-rate songwriting, and unapollegetically punk flavor. Packaged in a full color jacket with artwork from Beta Boys' own Hank Durango plus lyric insert, hype sticker, and digital download.
PIOUS FAULTS "Old Thread" LP (Feel It Records)
Now is the time to take notice of Brisbane, Australia's PIOUS FAULTS. Aside from a short, yet exciting demo on the Tenth Court label and a brief feature in the almighty Distort Mag, Pious Faults have remained somewhat of an enigma since their inception in late 2016. However, with "Old Thread", the young Australian group have crafted a remarkably lucid and original vinyl debut. A sonic whirlwind of wonderfully deconstructed hardcore punk - songs stripped of inheritable form; leaping from stone to leaf to puddle in a unique, abstract manner. A sound far from imitation but comparable to early Saccharine Trust, Spike In Vain, or more recent fare like Dry Rot and NASA Space Universe. Pious Faults careen through nine tracks on this 45rpm 12", balancing short, disaffected hardcore punk blasts with an experimental urgency, as referenced across tracks like the massive "Worship the Surface". The tense physical interplay between instruments feeds powerfully beneath uninhibited, wonder-full snarls that depict a landscape of the destructive external and a keyhole view into the bruised internal. Experience is exposed here by Pious Faults. Watch on and see no mind tied to its own leap. This record is born solely out of love, amusement & all the motions that follow in their wake. Reconnect with what allows you. Want on. Packaged in a full color jacket printed on recycled stock with risograph booklets printed by Oddities Prints and digital download. Limited to 400.
TABLE SUGAR "Collected Acknowledgements" LP (Stucco Label)
After a slew of tape releases and years of playing shows around the Pacific Northwest here is the debut vinyl-release from Table Sugar, a band that could only be described by our team of underpaid writers as ‘very good’. Post-Punk/Genre Karaoke in the vein of other contemporaneous style-scramblers and re-thinkers such as LITHICS, HOUSEHOLD or perhaps even GEN POP (shared members??) A ditty about friendship and collective/subjective experience in the current Olympia moment—a city where simultaneously everything and nothing goes on. Think maybe of the music of TWELVE CUBIC FEET or the ethos of a band like MORBID OPERA or DELTA 5, or really just think whatever you want. The new wave of the O-Town sound. Look for a 12” version of their first keyboard-less tape from 2016 out later this year on Water Wing Records. “Thanks to each other.”
MARBLED EYE "Leisure" LP (Digital Regress Records)
We are thrilled to announce the debut LP from Oakland's Marbled Eye. Following in the same vein as their first two EP's, playing sharply detached staccato post-punk with call-and-response guitar interplay, the band manages to expand upon and refine their sound making Leisure their strongest release to date. Available in Europe through E.T.T., This first-time pressing is limited to 1,000 copies on black vinyl. Includes download card.
LANDLINE "S/T" LP (Digital Regress Records)
Landline is a collaboration between Shirley Mistaken, and Toyota Avalon (Wonder Bread, Toyota) playing perfectly executed synth-laden new-wave / punk. Recommended for fans of Pylon, B-52's, and Suburban Lawns. First time pressing strictly limited to 500 copies, includes download card.
NASHO "S/T" LP (No Patience Records)
Nopatience Records is beyond excited to present the debut full length from Sydney's NASHO! brought together as relative strangers in 2017, their name derived from the question ‘What’s your Nasho?’, this LP is for anyone sick of being asked that question. Freaky bass grooves, ramshackle punk guitars and wild drums back up vocalist Serwah’s staunch invective; albeit squeezed through several layers of cavernous echo. This is endtime music for a welcome Armageddon. Nasho don their Gucci radiation suits - racked skillfully from the Westfield on the moon - for 9 tracks of bent and fearless hardcore. Each song lurches ghoulishly from lived experiences of colonialism to the traumatic violence of borders, pointing a smoking neon AK into the puffed chest of white supremacy. Featuring Members of ROYAL HEADACHE, BB AND THE BLIPS, and more..... the tracks presented here see NASHO expand further upon the sounds and ideas of their excellent 2017 demo. Highly recommended!
BLOODLETTER "Protection" LP (No Patience Records)
Hailing from Brisbane, the Sunshine State, perhaps the most stereotypically Australian of all the Australian states - BLOODLETTER here present their second offering following hot on the heels of a stellar 2017 demo on Lost in Fog Records. Whilst the most immediate point of reference would be ‘post-punk from across the pond’ ala CHARMELEONS, CRISIS and SIOUXIE AND THE BANSHEES, beneath it runs a more traditionally American sound in line with WIPERS, X, MISSION OF BURMA, and even HUSKER DU. Recorded live to tape at Queensland’s incredible Mount Nebo the end result is a record that does well to capture the bands uncompromising presence - a merging of dark hooks with driving melody. Featuring members of TEARGAS, 100%, DREAMTIME, OCCULTS, ZODIAC, PLEASURE SYMBOLS and more ‘Protection’ sees the group expand their sound beyond initial horizons to a more realized balance of thick atmosphere and biting melodies; a dark and melodic sound with unshaken resolve. Highly recommended!
PINEAPPLE "RnR" 7" (Lumpy Records)
STL's FRISKIEST GET REVENGE ON A CHRISTIAN GRAFITTI ARTIST BY WAY OF CRISP DADA POP. Upbeat. jangley. sax punk a la Kleenex. Essential Logic.
TRAUMA HARNESS "Organ Donor" 7" (Lumpy Records)
Best TH record yet . Gushing synth pop on the A side and a flip side Dragon Ball Z cover that sounds like Pet Shop Boys. No posturing here.
CRUELSTER "Riot Boys" LP (Lumpy Records)
Cruelster’s new record really is Against All Authority. Donnie got elected people thought the silver lining would be better punk? Hope you’re happy ! Here’s the one we’ve all been waiting in the mud for. Fourteen Tracks of seemingly dumb hardcore arranged to roast right wing daytime radio talking points. No flag remains unstood for here. “Crisis in Local Government Part III”, “The Pipeline could Work”, “Gold Studded Citizen” are only a taste of the ridicule. Join the Riot Boys and Laugh at the system like never before.
DONKEY BUGS "Ancient Chinese Secrets" LP (Lumpy Records)
Clevos DBs have created a bizarro left field masterpiece. Strange, mystical, mysterious - I just can’t remember the last time I was so debilitated by music. Some songs bring to mind the best late 00s drum machine punk bands such as Spider/Catatonic Youth, others move into industrial territory a la Monte Cazazza (especially “ABCs of Lust”). And a peppering of dub to boot! There are Multiple personalities behind the mic – a regular vocalist, a Russian woman, Kate Bush, a cheese loving northerner. The vocals really shine, some of the most confident lyrics I’ve heard. Definitely an unrestrained feel to the entire album (feedback as an instrument???) a la the Residents – the first time I heard it reminded me of the first time I heard Duck Stab, completely mind bending. Not for everyone but I’m completely smitten.
MENTIRA "Toda Tu Vida Es Una Mentira" 7" (Thrilling Living Records)
The best band I saw this year! Kansas City, MO’s MENTIRA marry the unbridled experimentalism of early Japanese hardcore with the contemporary melodicism and rhythmic inventiveness of the current Spanish punk scene — the groovier spiritual sibling of DESTINO FINAL, no doubt! — and emerge with something entirely their own. Estilo loco! A band that blew me away from the first minute I saw them, this is their debut on vinyl, lucky number TSF-013. Features members of AMERICAN HATE, NIÉGALO TODO, NATURAL MAN, UNFORGIVEN 5, and more. Limited to 500 copies and 25 tour edition test presses, all on black vinyl, with Risographed sleeves produced at Oddities Prints in KCMO. “Vivimos en eterno engaño, en constante vacío existencial.”
LITHICS "Photograph, You Of" 7" (Thrilling Living Records)
This double A-sided 45 from Portland’s LITHICS is a prerequisite for your next mutant disco. Precise, serrated pop, each one of these songs is a tiny world in its own, a locked groove you could inhabit forever, a million tiny clashes. Taking cues from CAPTAIN BEEFHEART, BUSH TETRAS, PYLON et al, this is a perfect companion to their new full-length on Kill Rock Stars. Limited to 500 copies on black vinyl.
LITHICS "Mating Surfaces" LP (Kill Rock Stars)
Mating Surfaces is the second full length from Portland, Oregon's Lithics. Twelve tightly wound fragments of brittle abstract twin guitar, impellent rhythm, and absurd, imagistic lyricism. "A stern danceable sound that summons cut up snapshots of Su Tissue and Mark E Smith, an imagined landscape where Captain Beefheart hits that 99 Records “Too Many Creeps” beat." -Layla Gibbon (Maximum Rocknroll, Skinned Teen)
ERIK NERVOUS "Nervoloid" 7" (Digital Regress Records)
It should come as no surprise to you that Erik Nervous is a member of the DEVO fan club. This new 7" (his first since Ice Cream on Total Punk) Features Erik ripping through some of his favorite obscure DEVO songs from various bootleg and live records. We are not men, we are NEVO.
LA WITCH "S/T" LP (Suicide Squeeze Records)
The name is a partial misnomer. Though the band hails from Los Angeles, they do not partake in any sort of witchcraft. Yet their ability to conjure a specific time and place through their sound does suggest a kind of magic. On their eponymous debut album, L.A. Witch’s reverb-drenched guitar jangle and sultry vocals conjure the analog sound of a collector’s prized 45 from some short-lived footnote cult band. The melodies forgo the bubblegum pop for a druggy haze that straddles the line between seedy glory and ominous balladry; the production can’t afford Phil Spector’s wall-of-sound, but the instruments’ simple beauty provides an economic grace that renders studio trickery unnecessary; the lyrics seem more descendent of Johnny Cash’s first-person morality tales than the vacuous empty gestures of pre-fab pop bands. This isn’t music for the masses; it’s music for miscreants, burnouts, down-and-out dreamers, and obsessive historians. Album opener "Kill My Baby Tonight" is the perfect introduction to the band’s marriage of ‘60s girls-in-the-garage charm and David Lynch’s surreal exposés of Southern California’s underbelly. Sade Sanchez’s black velvet vocals disguise the malicious intent of this murder ballad, with the thumping pulse of bassist Irita Pai, the slow-burn build of drummer Ellie English, and Sanchez’s desert guitar twang helping beguile the listener into becoming a willing accomplice to the narrator’s crimes. "Brian" follows the opening track with a similarly graceful, if not somewhat ominous, slow-mo take on a well-worn jukebox 7". It’s a vibe that permeates the entire album, from the early psychedelic hue of 13th Floor Elevators on tracks like "You Love Nothing," through the motorik beat and fuzzed-out licks of "Drive Your Car," to the grittier permutation of Mazzy Star’s sleepy beauty on "Baby In Blue Jeans."
NEGATIVE SCANNER "Nose Picker" LP (Trouble in Mind Records)
Chicago punk band Negative Scanner return to the fray with their second long-player, the cheekily titled Nose Picker. Once again recorded by the band themselves in their Chicago practice space, Nose Picker opens with a question; “Is there anybody there?”, which acts as both a legitimate query as well as a rallying cry. Negative Scanner make it clear that they want your attention, as opening tune “T.V.”s stutter step guitar riff leans into an lean and mean, 4-on-the-floor churn. The rest of the album follows suit, either with raging punk snarl (”History Lesson”, “First Blood”, “Let it Die”), or angular, emotive jagged guitar riffage (”A Cross”, “10 Million Kids”, “The Only One”), punctuated by vocalist/guitarist Rebecca Valeriano-Flores’ voice, teetering between a full throated roar and a plaintive monotone. Her lyrics are insular, spitting accusatory and inquisitory barbs inward, talking to anyone who listen. Is there anybody there? Despite the darkness on the surface, Nose Picker has an unmistakable air of whimsy, and a sense of humor, punctuated by the very literal album cover, and by the sound of a toilet flushing at the album‘s closing.
DOGS, THE "Slash Your Face" 7" (Last Laugh Records)
The Dogs came raging out of the legendary Motor City rock scene of the late 60's + early '70s, which spawned such musical touchstones as the Stooges, MC5, Amboy Dukes, Up, and other lesser known but equally ferocious proto-punk acts, The Dogs packed all the feral energy and cultural angst of that era into their live shows and an enduring set of recordings. The famous 3 song "Slash Your Face" EP hit the indy scene in 1978 culled from the historic live shows at the famous Mabuahy Gardens in San Francisco. This EP has been the fave of bootleggers and fans for 40 years. The band is still together and delivering the hard edged angst ridden Detroit Rock with their vibrant political attitudes and hi energy riffs.
GERMS, THE "Lexicon Devil" 7" (Blank Records)
First wave Los Angeles punk rock royalty THE GERMS need no introduction to anyone who should care. Their star shone extremely strong for an incredibly short time before their demise. A star that still shines in the aftermath of their end. THE GERMS are still influential to those who came after and ran with the punk rock baton. Lexicon Devil was THE GERMS second single and the first ever release for the legendary Slash label. This reissue is replicating the original 1978 version. This edition is the "throwback / revive / retro" version. Black and grey, double sided, wrap around picture sleeve on black vinyl. Much like the original 1978 version was packaged like. Final pressing.
CRUCIFIX "Nineteen Eighty-Four" LP (Fanclub Pressing)
Euro import includes: "S/T" 12" from 1981, "Nineteen Eighty-Four" 7" from 1982 and 2 tracks from the "Not So Quiet On The Western Front" DoLP and the "Rat Music For Rat People" LP Compilations both from 1982
OMEGA TRIBE "No Love Lost" LP (Sealed Records)
Remastered vinyl reissue of the debut and only Omega Tribe album, originally released in late 1983 on Corpus Christi Records. The album was recorded by Guitarist Pete Fender deep in the Poison Girl’s basement studio in Leyton and contains 11 punk anthems with a pop sensibility missed by most of their curse of 1983 peers. Omega Tribe were one of the few bands that had a much more softer, poetic and melodic style of playing that still managed to impress, educate and influence their audiences. It was protest music with a heart and sense of love that still is relevant 35 years later. This album has never been reissued and deserves it's place right next to the Mob - Let the Tribe Increase, Poison Girls - Hex and Zounds - Curse of Zounds.
SIC "High Voltage and Uncontrolled" LP (Belgian Waffles Records)
SIC 's music sounds "proto-punk" going to " loud synth-punk" , made by experimental musicians Francis (guitar), Alain (bass-synth) , joined by Mario (drums) and the "High Voltage" voice of Micheline. All the LP sounds like a wall of noise and sounds like an UFO in the Belgain music landscape , something you could put aside the "Blast-Hope" 7" or "S To S" lp for his sound assault and timeless style , mixing genres from 70's "Stoogian" hard rock wall of noise to early Cabaret Voltaire synth/post punk experiments. After a number of explosive gigs , they split in the late 70's , Alain continued on making all kinds of electronic experiments with a lot of projects and bands and kept running INSANE MUSIC label ,still alive today. Francis and Micheline will give a "new-wave" sound to SIC as a duo , and put out 3 excellent minimal wave singles early in the 80's. 19 songs of telluric chaos recorded and mixed on a reel to reel SONY TC 630 in Francis Pourcel’s attic in 1977 by Alain Neffe ( Pseudocode , Kosmose , Human Flesh , ... and founder of INSANE MUSIC label ). 33 rpm lp , double color insert , 500 copies made
X-PULSION "You are Nothing but Schmucks" LP (Belgian Waffles Records)
X-Pulsion was the direct successor of the defunct Belgian punkband Chainsaw. This group's only recorded 7-inch was a split with Streets, released in 1978 on Romantik Records, and reissued on No Good Records in 2015. This LP contains some recently recovered demo and rehearsal recordings plus the audio from a TV appearance. Sounds AMAZING! Raw punk at it's finest.
SIMPLETONES, THE "California" LP (Radiation Records)
Hailing from the SoCal working class town of Rosemead, the Simpletones only released one single on Posh Boy and had 5 tracks on the classic comp Beach Blvd. before breaking up but their influence on the punk scene is still felt today. They were one of the first West Coast groups to truly incorporate a melodic, pop-punk sound into their repertoire, and their influence can be seen from the 80s melodic hardcore of the Descendents and Bad Religion to the 90s revival of Green Day and the Offspring and beyond. The second band ever signed to the Posh Boy label, the Simpletones counted among its members, Snickers of the Klan, Jerry Koskie and Rabit from the Cheifs and Jay Lansford of the Stepmothers, ch3, Rik L Rik and the Urge fame. Collected here are all 20 tracks the group recorded during its original tenure from 1978 to 1980. Unbelievably classic first wave LA punk rock back in print on LP for the first time in over a decade.
VICE SQUAD "No Cause for Concern" LP (No Futuro)
Repress of the legendary first record by this important female fronted UK punk band originally released in 1981 by EMI.
VICE SQUAD "The Riot City Years" LP (Radiation Records)
Bristol's Vice Squad was one of the very first female fronted bands to play a relevant role in the early '80s punk scene. This LP collects Vice Squad's singles for Riot City, plus BBC session material and demo cuts. Also present is the classic single by Sex Aids, featuring members of Vice Squad (without singer Beki Bondage) and Chaotic Dischord.
VIOLATORS "The No Future Years" LP (Radiation Records)
The Violators are a great band that unfortunately never got totally off the ground...They only produced 4 7" and a 12" record that compiled their 7"... But, from '79 to about '84 they produced some of the best lost punk hits ever period. Quite possibly their biggest hit was Summer of '81. Which peaked up to number 6 on the uk indie charts and stayed on for 15 weeks back in April of '82. From, the classic beginning intro of this song to the final delivery you can still feel the urgency of those riots of '81 in the UK. This song totally gives you that feeling of what the hell was going on in the late '70s and early '80s that many punk bands tried to tell but, few pulled off the true spirt of what the heck was going on and how the people felt.
V/A "Bloodstains Across Virginia" Compilation LP (Prompt Critic Productions)
Fifteen essential punk rock blasts from the state of Virginia! 100% killer and rare punk released between '78 and '83, the vast majority of which has never been reissued or comped. Tracks from The Zits, Prevaricators, Lamour, Noys, Barriers, Beex, Insinuations, Naros, Chumps, Citizen 23, Raticals, Next of Kin, and Ricky & The White Boys. A state-wide smash and highly worthy addition to the Bloodstains series! Limited to 500.
IMPALERS "Psychadelic Snutskallar (UK Press)" LP (Static Shock Records)
In the modern climate of music, nothing sticks. Every week there is a new cool 7" or tape making the rounds on social media, littering your feed with bandcamp demos and instragamed cassette j cards. It's hard to keep up, yet an amazing time of stimulation and excitement for punks worldwide. But in the midst of all this madness - it's nice to know you can count on Impalers every year to release the best record of the year. Unless you live under a rock, you probably already know what to expect from these guys. Their LP last year topped year end charts high and low. And Psychedelic Snutskallar does damage in all the same places. Peerless d-beat, a work of art. Completely unhinged yet tight and in the pocket. This time they have upped the ante with a monstrous opening track that takes up the whole A side at a never boring 11 minute length. Tripped out artwork and packing concept by Sam Ryser (Crazy Spirit, Dawn of Humans, Dripper World) and reworked material from short lived side project Sick Plot make this 12" EP a no brainer.
IDIOTA CIVILIZZATO "La Vita Silenziosa" 7" (Static Shock Records)
Debut 7" EP from this new hardcore band based in Berlin, but with members from Italy, Mallorca and Australia (including people from DIAT and ORDEN MUNDIAL). IDIOTA CIVILIZZATO are here with the answer to the little asked question "What would Cheetah Chrome Motherfuckers be like if they grew up in the American midwest?". Hardcore punk being played because it's all that they know how to do and sounding like their lives depend on it. "Who put these 4 people in a room together?! What is the Italian version of Midwest USA? And how did it show up in Berlin? These weirdos look like they met at a bus station and together make up the ripping hardcore version of a house of cards that feels like it could fall apart at any moment, then it does but that’s actually how the song goes so uno, due, tre, quattro and on with the next one, kapisce paisan? Idiota is gonna teach you a little bit of Italian with some catchy romance language grunts and groans, the meanderings of a blue collar immigrant stuck in a kitchen behind a door, away from the public, away from people. This is the sound of pent up frustration and the things you do to keep your head above water in a world that doesn’t understand you and doesn’t want to try." - Onton. The record comes in a reverse board pocket sleeve with an insert and download code.
GISM "Military Affairs Neurotic" Tape (Fanclub Pressing)
G.I.S.M. was a Japanese Hardcore Punk band from Tokyo, formed in 1981. The band split after Randy Uchida's death in 2001. This is an unofficial reissue of their 1987 album with pro-dubbed audio, double-sided cover and bonus sticker.
DOMINANT FORCE "We Don't Want the Last Laugh" Demo Tape (Demo)
DOMINANT FORCE from Florida doing a 10/10 job with these 5 tracks. FFO CRO MAGS, LEEWAY, CRO MAGS.
AMMO 2018 Demo Tape (Headcount Records)
Chaotic, fast hardcore from New Jersey and New York. AMMO pulverizes the listener with non-stop blasts of aggressive noise featured on this 6 song tape. Blown out guitars, precise drumming, and vocals straight from a basement of fuckin' frustration, man. A must own for true HC/punk/metal freaks.
BOOTLICKER "Who Do You Serve?" Tape (Slow Death Records)
Raging uk82/d-beat from Canada!
POLICY OF TRUTH 2018 Tape (Slow Death Records)
Newest tape from this Canadian HC band
STARVATION "5 Track EP" Tape (Slow Death Records)
"Starvation is a band from Vancouver, British Columbia who formed in 2018, by the looks of things. Starvation play a vicious and brutal style of hardcore, punk, crust, and d-beat within their sound. Musically, Starvation can be loosely compared to bands such as Impalers, Churchwhip, No Power, and other like-minded bands. This is the band's debut demo, which is slated to be released on August 1st, 2018. On their self-titled debut, Starvation offer up five tracks of raw, filthy, and brutal as fuck sounding hardcore, punk, crust, and d-beat. Overall, Starvation's demo makes for an awesome listen and definitely should not be missed. Highly recommended! - Dead Air at the Pulpit
SCARECROW Demo Tape (Bunker Punks)
The Bunker Punks' inaugural release is also the first release from Scarecrow, a new Raleigh, NC hardcore punk band. Scarecrow's brand of mängel-influenced hardcore is full of catchy, relentless riffing and groovy, pounding drums, which evidences their love for classic Swedish bands like Totalitär and Anti-Cimex. This raw, blown-out straight-to-4-track recording is toppled by clear and commanding vocals. Bunker Punks approved.
VITTNA 7" Promo Tape (Bunker Punks)
New cassette from Raleigh hardcore punk band Vittna featuring 2 brand new songs from an upcoming 7" they hope to have out later in 2018. You can expect Vittna's same brand of dark, but ripping hardcore, taking influence from creepier 80s bands like Nog Watt or Die Kreuzen with a dash of US-meets-Swedish punk, but delivered with more intensity and at higher fidelity than their first tape. Also includes a few tracks from a live recording featuring a bonus cover tune. The tape features cover art by Red, vocalist from Scarecrow. Limited to 100 hand-numbered copies.
PIOUS FAULTS "Old Thread" Tape (Feel It Records)
Edition of 150 pro-duplicated cassettes. Includes 4 bonus tracks not on the vinyl or digital release. Only 75 copies available from the label; the rest available from the band on their US tour in August-September 2018. Want on

What are you waiting for? Order your copy now!
MAXIMUMROCKNROLL #425 - Oct. 2018 (MRR)
Whoa, is it time for a new issue of Maximum Rocknroll already? The October 2018 issue, MRR #425, is here! We’re excited to feature an interview with Greek post-punkers CHAIN CULT, fresh off the release of their new EP for La Vida Es Un Mus Records! We also include an interview with the recently broken-up French band VEUVE SS, who speak a lot about their art choices and their role in their musical endeavors. Also included are two interviews with organizers of different fests: Rayna Fayez of Yallapunk, which focuses on MENA (Middle Eastern and North African)-led music and culture, and AJ Santos of Migra Punk Fest, which highlights the voices of immigrant punks. This month also includes two features on California: Oakland heartthrobs DON’T ASK, who have been inspiring big feelings among their fans, and Arcata’s Outer Space, a non-profit Do It Together all-ages arts and music community space, who spill about their successes and their Lost Coast Fest, which kicks off October 5th. We’ve got Pittsburgh’s HET WARD COLLECTIVE, who use their heavy music to actively fight to uplift queer punks, Seattle’s FUCKED AND BOUND, a porn-loving feminist act, Spain’s TROIKA, who speak about their criticism of anti-authoritarian political spaces, and Olympia’s HOARDER, who prove to be more than just a feminist band.
