New Arrivals in the Webstore for November 15, 2017:
HARAM "When You Have Won, You Have Lost" LP (Toxic State Records)
After one Demo and one 7" on Toxic State, Haram from Nuke York release their debut album on La Vida es un Mus (in Europe) and Toxic State (USA). Taking their name from the Arabic word for ‘forbidden’, Haram play simple hardcore with lyrics sung entirely in Arabic. The sound is agitated and slightly deranged which hints at both Japanese hardcore and classic 80's European hardcore. The songs are driven by a primitive drum sound, melodic guitar work and intense vocals by Lebanese front man Nader. Haram stands out as one of the most culturally relevant, challenging and important bands in America. (Sean Forbes)
LIQUIDS "Heart Beats True" 7" (Digital Regress Records)
Indiana's punk/ hardcore syndicate Liquids have been on quite a run with at least 2 albums and 4 E.P.s in the last year (that I know of). Heart Beats True is a high-point of this output, originally pressed as a self-released cassette, it is finally getting the proper vinyl treatment it warrants.
LUMPY AND THE DUMPERS "Those Pickled Fuckers" LP (Lumpy Records)
Since emerging five years ago Lumpy and the Dumpers have gone from being aberrant oddballs to key figures in a whole scene of weirdo punk. Through Lumpy Records and its influence a grubby morrass of freak punk has bubbled to the surface in their slimy wake. Those Pickled Fuckers is the sound of a band distinguishing themselves from a sound they inspired, not falling into the easiness of a sound, finding new ways to express their grubby vision while retaining the essential muck that made people take notice in the first place. Over seven tracks of gritty discomfort punk, bulging with bodyhorror blues and puerile manic imprecations, Lumpy and the Dumpers revel and writhe in the effluvia of life and the rude pangs and oozings of flesh. Revivifying the dead metaphor of the earworm, these songs burrow snugly into your brain, distorted sing-song playground melodies, like hell dimension children's show theme songs, exploding with weird turns and twists, from the blaring horns of Someone's In The House's paranoiac stomp, to the wild malfunctioning chiptune screams cutting through Attention and the sinister whoops and crashes of the oddly mellow Clatter Song, Those Pickled Fuckers is an album only Lumpy and the Dumpers could've made._ (Joe Briggs)
VANILLA POPPERS "S/T" LP (Lumpy Records)
A ballsy record outta Cleveland. Driving upbeat charm of The Ramones backed with the vile grit of Amdi Petersons Arme. Plenty of half stepping all over the fretboard. The whole rhythm section on this album makes me shake my head, unbelievable. Lives up to the legacy of their city.
WORLD, THE "First World Record" LP (Lumpy Records)
Debut lp from this prized west coast act. Cool, grooving, hot wet saxed punk. Love those bongos. No modern day DIY band has made my blood skank like this. A wiggly record, you’re dancing.
U-NIX "S/T" 7" (Lumpy Records)
This EP is on FIRE. Psycho hardcore with some of the nastiest vocals/lyrics around, they remind me of the first h100s EP, no need to say any more.
GEN POP "S/T" 7" (Lumpy Records)
This one’s hard to pin. Some songs are urgent with hot pogo but then the switch gets flipped and you’re dangling, spiraling, marching. Undeniably punk. What if WIRE wore boots? An absolute Bung of an EP.
RAKTA "Oculto Pelos Seres" 7" (Iron Lung Records)
Howling winds over the barren sands sting your eyes just enough to make you question wether or not you did actually see what you think you saw. A shrouded figure casting shadows on memories of the future? A malformed Chris Marker statue sandblasted to obscurity? A beautifully melted humanity? Oculto Pelos Seres is all of those and more. By now RAKTA's signature brand of punk fueled, goth tinged, seemingly structureless yet extremely taut soundscapes should be familiar to you and if it isn't then this is a great place to start. Housed in a textured glue pocket sleeve with a vellum lyric sheet and stickers bag. Art by Chihiro Yoshikawa. Sounds by Bernardo Pacheco. Mastered by Daniel Husayn.
ACRYLICS "Structure" 7" (Iron Lung Records)
The newest offering from Santa Rosa's finest art bangers. They've added so much to their already incredible sound with this single and it will act as just a taste of what's to come on the LP in 2018. "Structure" is a bit more on the pogo side complimented nicely with sharp echo stabs and a ruinous atmosphere. "Gluttony" brings us back to that toss-and-turn-in-a-dark-alley kind of crunchy freak junk that the teens mangle themselves to. Our favorite blend of ugly and appealing. A limited release for unlimited punks.
LEBENDEN TOTEN "Static 12" (Iron Lung Records)
LEBENDEN TOTEN is one of the greatest punk bands to ever exist and this 12min one song e.p. proves the they can still do no wrong. When we asked them if they wanted to "get weird" with a single they, albeit very slowly, jumped at the idea. We had no idea what we were in for. It blows the mind all the way open. How do they keep getting better? "Static" is a perfectly wild and superbly crafted sheet of chaotic noise with a pounding goth backbone all jacked up on Hawkwind freakout space jams. Just try and imagine what that sounds like. America's best band.
LEBENDEN TOTEN "Mind Parasites" LP (Blackwater Records)
Another LP (seven tracks) from the legendary Lebenden Toten.
DIRTY AND HIS FISTS "S/T" 7" (Feel It Records)
Los Angeles punks DIRTY & HIS FISTS deliver a knockout four song EP on their vinyl debut, following a standout demo cassette. For the uninitiated, DIRTY & HIS FISTS have quickly become one of the best American punk bands alive, and one of the few to match powerful writing and performance with some of the best studio production out there. The Fists easily eclipse their demo with this new EP, incorporating a crunchy layer of synth, pounding rhythm section (featuring new drummer Sam Bosson), and ace production from guitarist/vocalist Mike Kriebel, who you may recognize as producer of recent Beat Sessions for Uranium Club, Urochromes, and P22. An undeniably great and memorable American punk record. Packaged in a reverse board pocket sleeve with an 7"x11" lyric insert and digital download.
GSP "S/T" LP (Thrilling Living Records)
New band from members of BIKINI KILL, SKINNED TEEN, MOZART, and more. Like Y-PANTS playing FLIPPER songs or vice-versa, this is the first document of this feminist supergroup. gSp (pronounced girlSperm) is Tobi Vail, Layla Gibbon, and Marissa Magic, all twin guitar attack and chanted gang vocals, built around the backbone of one of the most iconic drummers in the history of punk.
NEON "Neon is Life" Tape (Thrilling Living Records)
NEON is Chelsey, Grace, Marissa, and Rosie. Four cool and beautiful women plotting their revenge. Hand-painted and hand-stamped covers with pro-dubbed tapes. "Everything you could possibly want in punk music. If not, interrogate the integrity of your desires. NEON is a four-piece medium translating the universal howling female shitstorm alive and kicking within us all. Do you seek adventure? Justification for further recorded sound from a guitar? For those bored to tears by predictable rock'n'roll formula and pseudo-punk box-ticking, predictable posturing, NEON is a psychedelic diamond in the barren toxic rough. Yes, Virginia, there really are freaks still residing in a California. 100% proof adult women must escalate the full takeover of all aspects of punk everything. Neon will make you radiant and happy, probably more desirable." — Katie Alice Greer, July 2017
ITANSHA "Paranoia Demo" 7” (Warthog Speak Records)
This record has a track that repeats the same “part” about 368 times by my count, has no vocals, and advances on six minutes in length like some kind of fucked up D-beat dub edit that wields confusion as a hammer and tricks you into pounding your fist in the air in opposing sway to your swelling, banging head. That should be all you needed to hear but just in case... ITANSHA was a one-and-done project envisaged and carried out entirely by Daiki Kusuhara (MORPHEME, VACCUUM, HEAT, CRIME DESIRE, YADOKAI) employing all instrumentation and vocals. Seven cuts of raw, globe-trotting hardcore punk like a nice middle ground between the cacophonic mania of noisy Japanese hardcore of the ’80s, and the dense, humid desperation of brawny Mexican and South American raw hardcore. Edition of 250 copies. Originally released on cassette in 2012 by Life Sucker.
LION'S SHARE "S/T" 7" (Warthog Speak Records)
Not unlike our homies in FATIGUE, St. John’s, Newfoundland’s LION'S SHARE strides the pickets of Hardcore and Oi! in a lock-step, inimical porridge of chiming, martial hymns of social combat, that are as aggressive as they are catchy and melodic. Edition of 250 copies. Released earlier in 2017 on cassette by the band in a small amount.
RASH / C.H.E.W. Split 7" (Slugsalt Records)
"Two edgy, provocative and dynamic Chicago bands, each hammering through their songs with a single-minded intensity. C.H.E.W. submerge the occasional post-punk element into an aggressive and charging sonic fray, while RASH continue to screech and squall their way through their face-melting hardcore compositions. Both provide a loud and dark scream from the soul." -- Al Quint - Suburban Voice zine and Sonic Overload radio
RADIATION RISKS "Headless Horseman" 7" Flexi (Self Released)
Buffalo's RADIATION RISKS are back with two new tracks to follow up their Lumpy Rex debut, and lets start with the presentation of this flexi disc. What an absolute beauty this thing is! Seven layer screenprinted design! I almost feel bad playing this thing, but it actually sounds half decent and above all, these two cuts rule! Feral Kid Records.
RAPTURE "I Glorify" 7" (QCHQ)
'I Glorify' is the debut EP from Leeds based hardcore unit Rapture. Taking a big leap from their well received demo from last year, Rapture have further developed their signature sound blending Floorpunch, Turning Point with a hint of early Youth of Today, brimming with powerful rhythm section and catchy guitar hooks. The fast paced lyrics focus on the social pressures of everyday life, the power of words that seem to be so freely dispensed in today's society, online or otherwise, and the costly effect that they can have. Meanwhile 'The New Wave' is a nod to the New Wave of British Hardcore that Rapture identify with, sharing members with a host of bands such as Obstruct, True Vision, Shrapnel and Big Cheese.
UNJUST "Transparency" 7" (QCHQ)
Manchester Hardcore unit Unjust release their debut 7" 'Transparency', ramping up the ferocity factor since their demo, channelling Brotherhood and Confront vibes with plenty of pit friendly mid tempo beats in between blasting verses. Members of Insist rage unapologetically about the straight edge, with the kind of bold call to action lyrics that make you get up in the morning with a positive spring in your step ready to take on this sick sad world. The speed of Unjust's songs is what sets it apart from the genre, with songs such as 'False' containing drum rolls and blasts for days, and song writing that harkens back to some of the initial waves of hardcore punk in '82 and '85.
MEMORY LOSS "Exile" Tape (Vinyl Conflict Label)
Brand new tape from RVA's MEMORY LOSS
SOW Demo Tape (Demo)
New band out of RVA / Cville featuring members of Kommunion.
FRIED EGG "Two Sides of …" Tape (Feel It Records)

MATI Demo Tape (Demo)
New hcpunk outta NY
NIGHTFALL "Deadly Game" 7" (Ryvvolte Records)
Philadelphia raw punk legends 4th ep, by far the best of their long career so far. Nightfall have been playing around the east coast for the past decade, shattering ear drums and playing fucking louder then anyone else, heavily influenced by the likes of Discharge, Anti-Cimex,Confuse & Aus-Rotten. DRONEZ / HUMANAMANIA Split 7" (Ryvvolte Records)
Philly & Baltimore dbeat punks LOUD , political, and angry split 7". Both bands compliment both raw and traditional dbeat sounds which create the perfect sound track to our cities next riot. Raw, Loud, fucking punk!
ALEMENT "The Hunter" 7" (Ryvvolte Records)
Three tracks of axe-grinding post apocalyptic impending doom, from Philly hardest crust band of the last 7 years. Comparable to the styles of G-anx , Tragedy, Crow...etc.. Limited pressing of 300, hand stamped labels, black vinyl.

Check it out, it’s Maximum Rocknroll #415, the December 2017 issue! We are proud to feature an interview conducted by the organizer of the Bay Area’s Evaluate What You Tolerate compilation and zine with Cat Brooks, co-founder of the Anti Police-Terror Project. To Rape Culture collective about marginalized people collectively organizing against rape and other forms of oppression. Ex-VELVET UNDERGROUND member Willie “Loco” Alexander spills all about his 50-plus-year-long “so-called career” from his early garage rock years to his modern recordings. We also have part two of our lengthy article about the history of Alabama punk, covering Huntsville, Tuscaloosa, and more! Also included is an article in tribute to the radical life of Fred “Freak” Smith of BEEFEATER. We have a ton of international punk coverage this month! There is a massive feature on Sheffield, England, including a scene report, a mini-interivew with the Kids of the Lughole label, a full-length interview with COMMUNITY, and a photo spread from the Noise Annoys festival. For those hungry more more photos, there’s some fresh shots from Toronto’s Not Dead Yet fest as well. Russia’s STRESSHOLD give exclusive tidbits about touring and feminism in their home country, while Irish punks GRIT describe the politics and gentrification in Ireland. We also get updates about mental health from misanthropic Norwegian punks NEGATIV (who are a lot more positive than you’d expect).
