New Distro Titles 2/17/17:
S.H.I.T. "i" 7" (La Vida Es Un Mus)
S.H.I.T. have been one of the best bands doing it live and on record for a few years now and here on their fourth 7" (and first since 2014) they reassert their place as mainstays of Toronto's killer scene by serving up four more tracks of total hardcore moving forward through chaos. Insidiation blowing a wild storm hung around an unstoppable chugging riff, panic and terror building as the song pounds onwards. Incorporation shifting from warped siren blare to terrible tear. Barks of frustration, howls of anger, emerging from the bruising punk squall, anguished and disgusted. A record that careers with breakneck verve from sinister pulse to blazing hardcore bombardment (Joe Briggs). S.H.I.T.S’s new EP artwork was designed by the greatest Teodoro Hernández and comes with a download code.
RATA NEGRA "Oido Absoluto" LP (La Vida Es Un Mus)
RATA NEGRA from Madrid deliver twelve songs of dark, crude and moody punk on their debut LP. Formed of members from JUANITA Y LOS FEOS and LA URSS this power trio have distilled the negativity and uncertainly of the young Spanish generation and transformed it into perfectly crafted punk songs. Sharply turning snaps of daily life into melodic anthems for a doomed generation, musically RATA NEGRA fence between dark melodic OC punk a la RIKK AGNEW solo debut album and Spanish Punk ’83 via KGB/ VULPESS. Imagine the non keyboard tracks of Yugoslavian KAOS mixed with LA’S X melody, add to it a layer of distortion and a dose of vital desperation and you get close to RATA NEGRA’s sound. Oído Absoluto comes housed in a reverse board sleeve with printed inner. Both designed by guitarist Fa of Croke Studio and it is released as a collaboration between Beat Generation in Madrid and La Vida Es Un Mus Discos in Hackney.
EXOTICA "Musique Exotique 01" 7" (La Vida Es Un Mus)
EXOTICA’s debut is worth a million listens. Unfiltered punk which manages to mix elements of early Brazilian punk, the aggression of 82 post DISCHARGE explosion and mutant punk worldwide. Based in NYC but with members from Mexico, Argentina and USA they are prime example of a melting pot of the finest international hardcore punk. Originally released as a cassette tape in the tail end of 2016 and now getting the vinyl treatment as this tape was simply too good to stay as a cassette tape. Reverse board pocket sleeve with a beautiful Cyan 68 and Black cover as you’d expect from the fools at LVEUM. Comes with a download code and lyric insert.
RAT CAGE "Caged Like Rats" 7" (La Vida Es Un Mus)
RAT CAGE is Bryan J. Suddaby’s solo project. A one man stand against the world. Armed with guitar, bass, drums and a sick brain he brings six relentless tracks of total Sheffield mangel. Heavily influenced by the all time greatest TOTALITÄR and with a clear political edge RAT CAGE delivers track after track of high energy hardcore punk that will make fans of DISARM or PARTISANS equally happy.
CLAY, THE "The Middle East Combat Area" 7" (Fanclub Release)
THE CLAY from Japan, are metal influenced HC/Punk perfection! Their first and only 7"ep from 1984 "The Middle East Combat Area" is beyond classic, hard to find and around 100€! Limited to 333 copies, with all original artwork plus a bonus sticker not on original press!!!
FIRING SQUAD "At Their Mercy" 7" (Agitate Records)
Richmond's purveyors of straight-forward, classic style hardcore punk are back with six more relentless tracks. If their previous recording was towards the fast 'n loose spectrum of punk, this new platter comes off as utterly cold and calculating. Think of it inspired equally by traditional USHC and late 80s-90s Japanese groups, ala Bastard. For those who like riff oriented hardcore with piercing guitars, a driving rhythm section, and commanding vocals. Mastered by Josh Bonati, and comes in a glue pocket sleeve with artwork by Matt Bellosi.
VEXX "Wild Hunt" LP (M'lady's Records)
VEXX have trimuphantly returned to power. The new record is called "Wild Hunt" and couldn't be more aptly named. Six songs of potent fury and passion. Recorded by Hayes & Sam at Dub Narcotic in Olympia, mastered by Golden Mastering. Vinyl is a one-time pressing, and this is by far the most-anticipated release we've got coming up, if emails to M'lady's HQ are any indication, so reserve yours today! Released in conjunction with London's esteemed maison de disques UPSET THE RHYTHM!
GIVE "Electric Flower Cult" 12" (Lockin' Out Records)
Give's Electric Flower Cult 12" was recorded during the same sessions that bore the fruit of their last two releases: Sonic Bloom E.P. (revelation), and the self released Electric Flower Circus album. It comes as no surprise then, that Electric Flower Cult brings the same synthesis of the raw emotion and social conscience of DC's Revolution Summer era, and the shimmering layers of the early 90's Creation roster. Electric Flower Cult delivers 4, as yet unheard songs into the Give repertoire as well as a newly mastered version of the song Electric Flower Cult, each serving as part of an aggregate reminder of the snaking complexity and cathartic highs that Give have made their stock in trade for 8 years running. The Electric Flower Cult 12" hereby signals the end of Give's Electric Flower cycle, but it undoubtably reminds the listener of all the things that made it special.
LEMONADE "Pink" 7" (Thrilling Living Records)
My time in hardcore has been peppered with moments of revitalization, fleeting glimpses of timeless genius and chance encounters with other-dimensional energy that snap you out of your slack-jawed stupor, that beg and answer the question "Do You Still Like Hardcore?" And you do, and you move again and feel again and live again. It was MERKIT, then GUINEA KID, then GRASSEATERS, then NERV, then IN SCHOOL, then OOZE and BIG ZIT and MYSTIC INANE and so on and so forth. And then you're standing outside on an Oklahoman drag, it's misting outside, and your surrounded by a few hundred punks, with impending Mononucleosis and in front of you is LEMONADE and it rages like you know the Midwest rages. It's trippy without the try-hard long hair shenanigans. It's precise without being robotic. It's a fucking hardcore punk band when you desperately need that. It's a cool refreshing drink, the real fucking deal in a world so in need of one. Dig it, True Believers: this is THE fucking record. The choicest of the choice. Get it now!
UROCHROMES "Night Bully" 7" (Wharf Cat Records)
Urochromes continue an amazing run with the release of their first fully realized extended player, Night Bully. The A-Side is comprised of 3 full throttle and perfectly condensed punk songs, while the B-Side charts new territory for the group. Searing opener “My Dickies” is a playground for Dick Riddick, one of contemporary punk’s stand-out guitarists and a true master of tone. Here he shoots for the rafters with an ascending line that serves as the track’s central hook. The creepy whispered vocals and banging electronic drums of “My Disposition” introduce one of Jackieboy’s doomed characters swimming in self-doubt. “Confront Ya” explores adoration with a promise of continued indifference (“They love you in West Mass…Ahhhhhhh”). The B-Side opener “Night Bully” codifies Urochromes’ love of industrial punks, Chrome with an arrangement as mechanical as it is maniacal. Dick Riddick creates a constantly changing wave of texture over pulsing electronics. The whispered vocal style introduced in “Confront Ya” is back, this time asking “So you think I have a funny face?” Another of Jackieboy’s jealous, wounded characters this time baiting the affirmative response. The ender is a remix of “Night Bully” by electronic gloom masters, Boy Harsher. This track reimagines the song as a lost noir-wave classic while still retaining the menace of the original. The inclusion of this remix shows Urochromes’ disdain for “the rules” but also reminds us that the drum machine was there from the start – this has always been a punk band with one foot in electronic noise.
SEM HASTRO "Rancor A Cidade" 7" (Hysteria Records)
Sem Hastro debut 7", Washington DC hardcore with a brazilian singer, lyrics in Portuguese. Straight ahead, lo-fi, UK and American 80s hardcore influenced, with a brazilian touch to it. Screenprinted covers and stamped labels, 500 copies.
URCHIN "How to Make Napalm" 7" (Roachleg Records)
Debut EP from New York's Urchin. Rippin high-octane d-beat/raw punk done right.
TRAUMA HARNESS "Halloween Songs Vol. 1" LP (Lumpy Records)
The three halloween tapes get the proper treatment. So little time left to prepare for the season! Screen printed jackets.
STRANGER, THE "S/T" 7" (Lumpy Records)
Hey, are we finally done referring to every punk band with the word “mutant” now? Something’s telling me that we’re all pretty much over it by this point, but seein’ that I’m completely racking my brain trying to think of a more appropriate descriptor for these guys, I say sod it. Mutant rock n’ roll from St. Louis, recently etched onto wax by Lumpy Records following the EP’s original cassette release a few months back. Hot hot hot. - jimmy
RADIATION RISKS "S/T" 7" (Lumpy Records)
Debut EP from these Buffalo punx. It’s dummy punk for bizzaro idiots. It’s total ham-handed Geza X worship made by a bunch of mutant long hairs. You like Dangerhouse? You might like this nonsense.

Fresh from releasing their debut 7" on Deranged Records, we are excited to release the demo on to vinyl. Hailing from Minneapolis and featuring members of The Retainers, W.H. Walker, and Cheap Time. Influences range from old school Aussie punk to Killed By Death comps to contemporary garage/punk/powerpop to the classic sounds of Minneapolis/St. Paul. FFO The Marked men, Buzzcocks, Exploding Hearts etc. In short, it KILLS.
S.B.F. "S/T" 7" (Drunken Sailor Records)
Originally release on cassette on Abnormal Broadcasting, mastered by Daniel Husayn at North London Bomb Factory for vinyl and it sound KILLER. S.B.F. is a project made up by two Californian dudes that you’ve probably already heard of at one point or another, assuming that you’ve been keeping a close eye on my channel over these past few months: these two dudes are Cruz Somers—the guy behind L.A.’s Socialites (including the project’s live outfit, which features Raymond on guitar, his eponymously-named solo-projects (notably “UV-B” and “Beneath My Blood”. S.B.F. seems like a delightfully-eccentric halfway point between Cruz’s “UV-B” and Raymond’s “Race Car”, with the two sharing a similar light-hearted sense of melodiousness and techy-influence when it comes to the blatant drum machine usage, while doing without some of the gloomier aspects of UV-B’s musicianship. Not-surprisingly enough, the merger between Cruz’s vicariousness and Raymond’s succulent twang (I feel REALLY dirty saying that) makes for an utterly-infectious collection of quirky melodies, being further accentuated by the dissonance brought forth by their dual-guitar set-up - JIMMY
DISCHANGE "The Demos" LP (Rust and Machine Records)
Raging Swedish d-beat hardcore punk in the rawest Discharge vein. These were the two demos recorded in 1989 and 1990 and have never seen a proper release until now. "This thing is all energy, reminding me of the early days of the mid-00s USHC revival when new bands like Direct Control and Government Warning and all of the early No Way Records bands were coming out and everything was just so exciting. Machine Gun would fit right in on an edition of the No Bullshit compilation series, as, not only is their music totally devoid of bullshit, but also their fast and catchy take on the traditional USHC sound reminds me a lot of bands like Chronic Seizure and Cardiac Arrest. I have to admit that, like everyone else, I got a bit burned out on this style a few years ago, but Machine Gun are like a breath of fresh air to the USHC fanatic. An absolutely killer demo... can't wait to hear more!" - sorrystaterecords.com
